NT Gov Appoints New Aboriginal Areas Protection CEO

NT Government

I have appointed Robert Pocock as the new Interim Chief Executive Officer of the Aboriginal Areas Protection Authority (AAPA), commencing Saturday 30th August 2025.

Mr Robert Pocock brings a wealth of experience, most recently as a Director of Strategic Aboriginal Policy with the Northern Territory Government and as a Member of the Northern Territory Heritage Council, with several years of legal practice experience.

The current CEO, Dr Ben Scambary's contract concludes on the 30th of August 2025, and his contribution leaves a lasting legacy for the Aboriginal Areas Protection Authority and the Northern Territory.

Dr Ben Scambary has provided leadership to AAPA over the past 17 years. I thank him for his dedicated service and the significant contribution he has made to the Northern Territory.

While I acknowledge and appreciate his significant contribution over the past 17 years, this decision reflects our government's mandate for change.

It's time for new energy, fresh perspectives, and a different leadership approach to ultimately position the Authority to grow, succeed and play a key role in the Territory's economic advancement.

I look forward to working with Mr Pocock to continue to protect Aboriginal heritage and reduce red tape to grow the Territory's economy.
