NTEU Statement On Violent Repression In Iran

NTEU condemns the violent repression of civilians in Iran, including the killing, arrest and torture of individuals. Such actions represent a serious violation of basic human rights and fundamental political freedoms.

NTEU acknowledges the acute distress felt by Iranian-Australian staff and students, as well as Iranian international students studying in Australia, many of whom are experiencing profound stress, fear and uncertainty for the safety of their families and communities.

NTEU stands in solidarity with all those affected. NTEU reaffirms its commitments to peace, democracy and solidarity.

NTEU calls on all tertiary education institutions to offer appropriate support, understanding and empathy during this period of crisis.

We call on employers in our sector to recognise this may be an anxious, distracting, and painful time for many staff and students.
