Two overnight arrests were no tall order for Police in Auckland City West on Thursday.
Auckland City West Area Prevention Manager, Inspector Wayne Kitcher, says Police responded to reports of a burglary at a coffee shop in Mount Albert around 1.30am.
"It's understood the front door was broken to gain access into the New North Road address and despite initial enquiries in the area to establish those involved, no one was located.
"However, upon reviewing footage that was immediately available, our keen-eyed officers spotted a male who appeared to have entered the premises before leaving on foot."
Police left the scene and a short time later, Inspector Kitcher says their vigilance paid off.
"The male was located walking a few roads away where he was taken into custody without incident.
"The 40-year-old has since been charged with burglary and is due to appear in the Auckland District Court today."
Soon after, Police responded to reports of a woman attempting to gain access into a shopping complex on St Lukes Road.
"She was located by Police upon arrival and taken into custody without further incident," Inspector Kitcher says.
"The 37-year-old has also been charged with burglary and will too appear in the Auckland District Court today."
Inspector Kitcher says these arrests are another great result for our community.
"It is disappointing to see a local business and one of our shopping complexes being so brazenly targeted, but we know these arrests will bring reassurance to those who live and work in the area.
"I would also like to acknowledge the quick report of both these burglary to 111 so that Police could respond accordingly."
