As stated by Detective Senior Sergeant Lindsay Pilbrow:
Police are now treating the death of a child in Tauranga last week as a homicide, following the results of post mortem and medical examinations.
A 17-month-old girl was taken to Tauranga hospital from an address in Maungatapu Road with critical injuries on Wednesday 27 March.
The girl, Sadie-Leigh Gardner, sadly died in Starship Hospital two days later, on Friday 29 March.
Police are continuing to speak to her family, who are cooperating with Police fully.
