NZ police remind boaties to carry lifejackets at all times

Lifejackets played a major role in preventing a more serious incident at Lambton Harbour, Wellington, this morning, Sunday 16 June .

Around 9.05am Police received reports of two people in the water close to a sinking ski boat.

The Wellington Police Maritime Unit vessel Lady Elizabeth IV responded and recovered a 16-year-old and 17-year-old.

"The vessel had a foot controlled throttle, when the skipper slowed down quickly the wake generated came over the rear of the boat," says Sergeant Richard Kennedy, Wellington Police Maritime Unit.
