NZ police remind trampers and walkers to plan and prepare before heading out

As stated by Sergeant Phil Simmonds, Canterbury Police SAR Co-ordinator

Following a number of recent incidents involving people getting into difficulty outdoors Police are reminding people to plan and prepare before heading out this winter.

Whether it's a multi-day tramp or a day-walk, people are urged to plan their trips, prepare for all conditions, and properly equip themselves before setting off.

Police remind people to be especially mindful of conditions during winter, with shorter days and below freezing temperatures at night.
