O'Connell Street Plays Host to TDU Stage 1

O'Connell Street will be a hive of activity tomorrow morning as the Santos Tour Down Under Ziptrak Stage 1 kicks off from Eighty Eight O'Connell.

Cycling fans are encouraged to attend 'Brekkie & Bikes on O'Connell Street' at the Eighty Eight O'Connell site, which will feature two giant inflatable water slides, a circus-top tent with water play for kids, an imagination playground and many more free activities.

Local traders will be on hand to supply quality food and beverages in a shaded café area from 9:00am to 1:00pm and City of Adelaide encourages attendees to visit the many great eateries nearby.

Perryman's Bakery's Kylie Schmidt said Brekkie & Bikes on O'Connell Street promised to be a great morning of food and fun for families.

"This is a terrific opportunity for local businesses like ours to showcase the quality food and hospitality available in North Adelaide and we're looking forward to seeing a big crowd join in the fun," said Kylie.

Lord Mayor Sandy Verschoor looked forward to a large crowd getting along to O'Connell Street to cheer on the riders and enjoy breakfast at Eighty Eight O'Connell and local eateries.

"City of Adelaide is committed to making 2019 a busy and exciting year for O'Connell Street and all of North Adelaide, starting with this fantastic event," said the Lord Mayor.

"Local traders are excited about getting involved and this is precisely the type of event we want to see more of in North Adelaide this year.

"We're moving swiftly to see a development at Eighty Eight O'Connell recently completing an Expression of Interest process that has attracted submissions from local, national and international development companies.

"In the meantime, I am keen for us to increase the amount of temporary activation at Eighty Eight O'Connell to regularly attract more people to the area.

"City of Adelaide is focused on supporting North Adelaide as a vibrant and successful business, retail and hospitality destination and has a strong track record of supporting traders."
