A driver was found to be more than five times over the limit after he crashed has car in Oakleigh East on Wednesday evening.
Officers were called to Carmichael Road about 7.35pm after reports a blue Toyota sedan had taken a corner too fast and crashed into a pole.
The impact caused serious damage to the car which was towed from the scene.
Police spoke to the driver, a 33-year-old man from Malvern East, who underwent a preliminary breath test at the scene.
He then underwent an evidentiary test and returned an alleged result of 0.255.
His licence was immediately suspended, and he is expected to be charged on summons with drink driving and other traffic offences.
