OAS Election Observation Mission Statement in Peru

OAS

The Electoral Observation Mission (EOM) of the Organization of American States (OAS) in Peru, headed by Víctor Rico Frontaura, welcomes the timely measures adopted by the National Elections Board (JNE) at the request of the National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE) to guarantee the right to vote for citizens who were unable to exercise it today in Lima.

From the opening to the closing of the polls, the Mission observed the process at nearly 1,000 polling stations both within Peru and abroad. The OAS team confirmed that the elections were conducted peacefully and in an orderly manner at the observed polling stations. At the same time, the OAS/EOM noted delays in the opening of polling stations and the inability to conduct voting at 13 polling stations.

The OAS Mission announces that tomorrow it will deploy observers at the polling stations where the pending elections will be held.
