The Electoral Observation Mission (EOM) of the Organization of American States (OAS) for the Referendum and Popular Consultation in Ecuador has officially begun its work in the country.
The Mission is headed by former Deputy Foreign Minister of Uruguay, Nicolás Albertoni, and is composed of a team of 16 experts and observers from six countries. During its deployment, the team will hold meetings with government authorities, representatives of electoral bodies, civil society organizations, and delegates from political parties registered for the process.
The observers will focus their analysis on several key areas, including electoral organization, electoral technology, electoral justice, political and campaign finance, and direct democracy. Upon completion of the process, the Mission will issue a comprehensive report outlining its observations and providing recommendations, with the goal of continuing to support the strengthening of democratic processes in Ecuador.
This is the 30th Mission that the OAS has deployed in Ecuador, and the third so far in 2025, made possible through the financial contributions of South Korea, Spain, the United States, the Netherlands, and Panama.
