The Organization of American States (OAS) and the Mexican municipality of San Pedro Garza García, in the state of Nuevo León, will work together to strengthen the capacities of 125 public servants and promote more efficient, transparent, innovative, and results-oriented public administration, under an agreement signed today at the Organization's headquarters in Washington, D.C.
The agreement will provide training opportunities through the OAS School of Governance and will include specialized courses on municipal open government, effective and sustainable public procurement, data leadership in the public sector, and public governance, management, and leadership.
Following the signing of the agreement, the Mayor of San Pedro Garza García, Mauricio Farah Giacoman, said his administration has prioritized "adopting best practices in finance, security, transparency, and public services." He added that the most important objective "is to continue training our public officials so that we can keep providing the best possible services to the city, with the highest possible levels of transparency and quality."
For his part, OAS Secretary General Albert R. Ramdin emphasized the importance of investing in strengthening the institutional capacities of local governments: "It is about applying the right tools, approaches, and policies; being disciplined in our procedures, while always seeking opportunities to achieve efficiency and cost-effectiveness." He added: "These initiatives demonstrate the value of the OAS. We can have many political debates, but what truly matters is how those debates translate into something that citizens genuinely need."
The ceremony was attended by, among others, the Permanent Representative of Mexico to the OAS, Alejandro Encinas, as well as officials from the municipality of San Pedro Garza García and the hemispheric organization.
