Officer charged at Inverell

A police officer has been charged over an alleged on-duty assault in the state's north.

The incident occurred on Thursday 27 December 2018, when it's alleged the senior constable assaulted a 14-year-old boy during an arrest on Evans Street, Inverell.

Investigators from Professional Standards Command commenced an investigation and yesterday (Tuesday 20 August 2019), the officer was served with a Future Court Attendance notice for the offence of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

He is expected to appear at Armidale Local Court on Monday 14 October 2019.

The officer is currently on leave and his duty status is under review.
