Officer charged - North West Metropolitan Region 27 September

A police officer has been charged following an investigation by police in Newcastle.

Earlier this year, officers from Northern Region commenced an investigation into reports of an alleged assault on Hunter Street, Newcastle, on Friday 24 June 2022 – involving an off-duty police officer.

Following inquiries, a constable – attached to a command in the North-West Metropolitan Region – was issued a court attendance notice today (Tuesday 27 September 2022).

The officer was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

They are due to appear at Newcastle Local Court on Thursday 10 November 2022.

The officer's employment status is currently under review.
