Officer charged - Western Region 4 March

A police officer has been charged with drug and firearm offences.

In February 2021, officers from the Professional Standards Command commenced an investigation into the possession of restricted substances.

Following inquiries, investigators attended the officer's home on Wednesday 17 February, and during a search allegedly located prescription medication. Breaches relating to the securing and disposal of registered firearms was also identified.

Today (Thursday 4 March 2021), the senior constable, attached to a command in the Western Region, was issued a court attendance notice for two counts of possess prescribed restricted substance, not keep firearm safe, and three counts of fail to notify the Commissioner particulars of disposal of a firearm.

He is due to appear at Narrabri Local Court on Tuesday 27 April 2021.

The officer's duty status is currently under review.
