Lieutenant Colonel Tegan Musumeci has served in a range of roles supporting the operational readiness of the Australian Defence Force.
In 2023, Lieutenant Colonel Musumeci was appointed the Commanding Officer of Joint Logistics Unit - North (JLU‑N), where she led the delivery of theatre logistics across the Northern Territory and Kimberley region of Western Australia.
Reflecting on the posting, she expressed gratitude for her family's support and the team that shaped her experience.
"The posting was a fantastic opportunity to work alongside such dedicated professionals," Lieutenant Colonel Musumeci said.
"Logistics is a team sport. The subject-matter expertise and the strength of the stakeholder relationships were incredible. At the core, we were working to position and operationalise support to the warfighter."
Lieutenant Colonel Musumeci's career has been defined by her commitment to teamwork and stewardship.
"As military members, your ability to influence change is often limited by posting cycles. Working with the multitude of stakeholders across the Defence logistics network, at times you may be a passing influence in a more permanent culture," she said.
"My goal therefore was to affect change without being too disruptive. You want to improve processes and build on the momentum but retain the core business and identity of the unit.
"It is not an easy process, nor will you always have the solution yourself. That is why ensuring the team has agency in the process is critical for success."
Lieutenant Colonel Musumeci's sense of stewardship extended to the traditions of the unit.
On her departure, she gave the unit two new mascot geckos - Winnie and Holt. The lizards are named after the suburbs of Winnellie and Holtze in Darwin, where the unit was first established, and its current home within Robertson Barracks.
She was recognised in this year's Australia Day honours for her "outstanding achievement in the delivery of theatre logistics to the integrated forces and our allies and partners" as Commanding Officer of JLU-N.
