Officer Injured by Stolen Vehicle in South Mackay

Detectives have charged a 25-year-old man following investigations into a police officer struck by a stolen car at South Mackay on Sunday, 24 May.

Police received information around 10am that a stolen white Rav4 was at an address on Paradise Street.

When police arrived on the scene, the male driver of the Rav4 allegedly reversed out of the driveway, striking two police vehicles.

A male constable, who had exited the police vehicle in an attempt to arrest the driver, was struck by the Rav4 before the driver allegedly fled the scene in the vehicle.

The officer received an injury to his foot and was transported to hospital.

After leaving Paradise Street, the Rav4 was sighted travelling around the Paget and Oorlea areas before crashing on the Mackay Ring Road at 10.20am.

The 25-year-old male driver and sole occupant fled on foot and was arrested this morning, 25 May.

He has been charged with two counts of enter dwelling with intent, and one count each of endangering police officer when driving a motor vehicle, damaging emergency vehicle when operating motor vehicle, enter dwelling and commit, unlawful use of motor vehicles, enter premises and commit indictable offence, attempted enter dwelling with intent.

He is due to appear before Mackay Magistrates Court on 26 May.

The Rav4 had been reported stolen from a home on Lindeman Avenue in the Townsville suburb of Cranbrook at approximately 2.30am on 24 May.

A 20-year-old woman was also arrested yesterday 24 May at the Paradise Street scene and has been charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

Her bail has been refused, and she was due to appear in Mackay Magistrates Court on 25 May.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
