Officer injured in crash - Punchbowl

A police officer has been injured after the vehicle he was travelling in was involved in a crash with another vehicle in Punchbowl this afternoon.

About 1.40pm (Saturday 26 October 2019), police were travelling on Belmore Road - under lights and sirens – responding to an urgent job at Riverwood.

The police car was hit by a vehicle turning from Charlescotte Avenue onto Belmore Road causing the marked police vehicle to crash into a truck that was parked on Belmore Road.

One officer suffered a head injury and was taken to St George Hospital for further treatment.

A second officer, and driver of the vehicle, was also taken to hospital as a precaution.

The female driver of the other vehicle was not hurt; she was also taken to hospital as a precaution.

Officers from Campsie Police Area Command will investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.
