Officer stabbed; man arrested - Central Railway Station

A police officer has been stabbed and a man arrested following an incident at Central Railway Station.

Police were called to the railway station about 6.45pm today (Friday 19 April 2019), after reports of an assault.

It's alleged a man approached officers from the Police Transport Command and stabbed a male senior constable in the back.

Two further police officers came to render assistance, before a struggle ensued.

The injured officer was taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

The 53-year-old man was arrested before being taken to St Vincent's Hospital with a laceration to his head.

Officers from Sydney City Police Area Command have established a crime scene, which will be forensically examined.

Inquiries into the incident are continuing.
