Officers assaulted; man charged - Western Region

A man will appear in court today charged after police officers were allegedly assaulted during his arrest in the state's Central West yesterday.

Early in July 2020, it was reported to police that a man was struck with a knife to his head at a party in Bidwill requiring medical assistance.

Following inquiries by officers attached to Western Region and North-West Metropolitan High Risk Domestic Violence Team, a man was arrested at a home on Goorawin Street, Orange, about 10.50am yesterday (Monday 24 August 2020).

When police were placing the 26-year-old man under arrest he allegedly hit a constable in the head causing a laceration.

The man was taken to Orange Police Station where he again allegedly assaulted the officer and a sergeant before making threats.

The constable received medical attention for the laceration to his head.

He was charged with wound person intend to cause grievous bodily harm, three counts of resist officer in execution of duty, two counts of assault police officer in execution of duty cause actual bodily harm and assault police officer in execution of duty.

The man was refused bail to appear at Orange Local Court today (Tuesday 25 August 2020).
