Officers injured, six charged after fight, NSW

Two officers have been injured and six people charged after a brawl outside a nightclub in Surry Hills this morning.

Officers from Surry Hills Police Area Command were at a nightclub on Oxford Street about 1.25am (Saturday 9 February 2019), when they were alerted to a fight involving patrons.

When officers arrested a 23-year-old woman, they were allegedly assaulted by several people with her.

Police used OC spray and an electronic control device to arrest five people who were then taken to Surry Hills Police Station and charged,

  • A 32-year-old man, from Glebe, has been charged with assault police officer in execution of duty – cause actual bodily harm, and resist or hinder police officer in the execution of duty. He's been refused bail to appear in Parramatta Bail Court today (Saturday 9 February 2019).
  • A 26-year-old man from South Coogee, has been charged with resist or hinder police officer in the execution of duty. He's been refused bail to appear in Parramatta Bail Court today (Saturday 9 February 2019).
  • A 31-year-old man from Darlington, has been charged with resist or hinder police officer in the execution of duty; he been granted bail to appear in Downing Centre Local Court on Thursday 7 March 2019.
  • A 30-year-old man, from Kingsgrove, has been charged with resist or hinder police officer in the execution of duty. He's been granted bail to appear in Downing Centre Local Court on Thursday 7 March 2019.
  • A 23-year-old woman from South Coogee, has been charged with behave in offensive manner in/near public place/school. She's been granted bail to appear in Downing Centre Local Court on Thursday 7 March 2019.

A sixth person – a 29-year-old woman from Glebe – was arrested about 10.45am and is in the process of being charged with resist or hinder police officer in the execution of duty, assault police and common assault. Her bail is being determined now.

One officer has been treated for an injury to his right leg, while a second officer is undergoing tests for suspected fractures to his hand.
