Officers rescue pup from hot car in CBD, SA

Police today rescued a distressed dog from inside a hot motor vehicle parked at War Memorial Drive in the CBD just after noon, according to SA Police.

Officers attended after being alerted by a concerned member of the public.

They smashed a window to rescue the dog which was in obvious distress. Witnesses told police that the car had been parked there since 10.30am.

The RSPCA have been called in to treat the dog and follow up with the owner.

It is important for the community to remember not to leave children or animals in cars in the heat, with the temperature rising very quickly inside vehicles, potentially leading to heatstroke.

While the weather is predicted to cool off over the coming days, today’s rescue was a timely reminder for the community.

In any emergency life-threatening situation, call police on Triple Zero (000).

If you see an animal in distress, contact RSPCA South Australia’s 24 hour cruelty hotline on 1300 4 777 22.
