Officers spat on, headbutted; man charged - Glebe

A man has been charged after he allegedly spat on and assaulted police in Glebe this morning.

Officers from Leichhardt Police Area Command were called to Glebe Point Road about 12.30am (Sunday 13 December 2020) after a 20-year-old man standing outside a hotel was allegedly punched in the face by another man.

While officers approached a 36-year-old man, it's alleged he became aggressive towards police and told them he was armed with a weapon.

The man was followed to a nearby hostel where police attempted to arrest him; however, police allege the man became violent and a struggle ensured during which an officer was headbutted in the face and three officers were spat in the face.

The man was taken into custody to Newtown Police Station where he has been charged with seven offences,

• Assault occasioning actual bodily harm

• Assault police (four counts)

• Intimidate police, and

• Resist police.

The man has been refused bail to appear in Parramatta Bail Court today.
