An 100 square metre area of the Burnie Wharf was cordoned off today after the discovery of old military ordinances on site, Tasmania Police say.
Tasports contacted Tasmania Police at 10:00am today after they located the ordinances encased in concrete at the wharf. The Bomb Response Group attended the scene to assess the material as a precaution and after advice from the Department of Defence, determined they were likely to be inert training ammunition.
Officers from the Bomb Response Group have safely examined the ordinances and confirmed they are inert and pose no risk to the public. Tasports have disposed of them accordingly.
