Olinda Grove, Mount Nelson To Get Traffic Signals

Tasmanian Government

Construction will start next week to install traffic signals at the Olinda Grove roundabout for traffic travelling from Mount Nelson.

The signals are being installed on the Mount Nelson approach only, to improve traffic flow, particularly for road users travelling from the Southern Outlet towards Olinda Grove during peak periods.

Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, Kerry Vincent, said the project is about delivering practical improvements for Tasmanians.

"The new traffic signals will make everyday travel easier for locals," Minister Vincent said.

"Our Government is delivering the infrastructure our growing community needs."

Government Whip, Marcus Vermey, said the upgrades will make a real difference.

"This is about backing in our community and delivering improvements that people will notice every single day."

Construction will start on Tuesday, 7 April 2026, with work taking place between 9:30 am and 3:00 pm, Monday to Friday.

A reduced speed limit and single lane closures will be in place throughout construction, which is expected to be completed by July 2026, weather permitting.

The new signals will activate only when queuing is detected on the Hobart-bound Southern Outlet off-ramp at Olinda Grove.

When activated, they will briefly stop traffic travelling from Mount Nelson to help reduce congestion and improve traffic flow through the roundabout.

As part of the project, traffic monitoring cameras will be installed on Olinda Grove and near Proctors Road, which will help response times to incidents or changing conditions.

This project is being jointly funded by the Tasmanian Government and City of Hobart, which have committed $985,000 and $150,000, respectively.

Road users should allow up to five minutes extra travel time throughout construction.

Please remember to follow the direction of traffic controllers and signs and keep to the posted speed limit for everyone's safety.
