OMCG member faces traffic and weapons offences after pursuit - Glendenning

An Outlaw Motorcycle Gang (OMCG) member has been charged with several offences after a pursuit and search in Sydney's north-west during which a firearm, weapons and prohibited substances were seized.

About 6.50pm on Monday (25 March 2019), a Harley Davidson motorcycle was travelling south on Richmond Road, Dean Park, and was observed by police to not have a registration plate.

Police attempted to stop the motorcycle however it accelerated away and a pursuit was initiated.

The pursuit was terminated by police a short time later for safety reasons.

The pursuit was then reengaged by police on Dublin Street, Glendenning, but was again stopped.

Shortly after this, police located the motorcyclist in a creek bed near the intersection of Lamb and Owen Streets, Glendenning, after having lost control.

The rider, a 29-year-old man, was arrested. He was found to be wearing a firearm holster and latex gloves, as well as having a balaclava in his possession.

He was taken to Riverstone Police Station where he was charged with several offences.

Yesterday (Tuesday 26 March 2019), officers from North West Metropolitan Region OSG conducted a search of the vicinity where the man was arrested.

They subsequently located a loaded firearm.

About 8.40pm the same day, officers from State Crime Command's Strike Force Raptor and other specialist police attended the man's address in Banyan Glade, Schofields, to conduct a Firearms Prohibition Search.

During the search, police allegedly located prohibited weapons (knives), prescribed restricted substances (steroids), balaclavas and an amount of cash.

The man has now been charged with:

- police pursuit – not stop – drive recklessly (Skye's Law),

- not display number plates,

- not display P plates,

- armed with intent to commit indictable offence,

- possess unauthorised pistol,

- acquire pistol - subject to firearms prohibition order,

- acquire ammunition – subject to firearms prohibition order, and;

- possess ammunition without permit.

The man, who is a member of the Rebels Outlaw Motorcycle Gang (OMCG) was refused bail and appeared at Blacktown Local Court yesterday (Tuesday 26 March 2019), where he was remanded in custody to reappear at the same court on Tuesday 16 April 2019.

Chief Inspector Garry Sims said inquiries into the incident continue.

"We wish to reassure members of the public that we will continue in efforts to disrupt criminal activities and our investigators will lay further charges as evidence is obtained," Chief Inspector Sims said.
