One more Sleep until Darwin's First Christmas Pageant

This Saturday, Darwin City will welcome its newest festival event, the Christmas Pageant, launching the magic of the Christmas season in the heart of the city.

The Darwin Christmas Pageant will begin at 5pm on Saturday 19 November.

Close to 50 floats will start the Pageant off at the corner of Peel Street and the Esplanade and journey down the Esplanade onto Knuckey Street and end at Raintree Park.

Community groups, businesses and schools will all take part, with float ideas ranging from dancing performances to custom built vehicles.

The celebrations continue with family-friendly festive performances in Raintree Park straight after the Pageant, followed by an official lighting of the tree in the Mall at 7:15pm.

The top spots to view the Pageant are the Esplanade, Tamarind Park, Knuckey Street and Raintree Park.

To help Territorians get into the Christmas spirit the Territory Government offered grants of up to $500 to help community groups create walking or vehicle floats to take part in the Pageant.

The Pageant will mark the beginning of the Festive season in Darwin and will be followed by a fun-filled schedule of Christmas activities such as the Christmas tree lighting, a city-wide light trail and performances across the town.
