One operation to rule them all

Prahran Highway Patrol conducted Operation Gandolf on the Monash Freeway overnight, targeting drink, drug and unauthorised driving, Victoria Police say.

Two booze buses and vehicles with Automated Number Plate Recognition were set up on outbound lanes of the Monash Freeway between High Street and Warrigal Road in Malvern East.

Eighteen drink drivers were detected during the 7.5 hour road safety blitz, which resulted in the impoundment of five vehicles.

Alarmingly, one in 48 drivers recorded a positive preliminary breath test with one driver returning a blood alcohol concentration in excess of 0.20%.

A total of 53 offences were detected during the operation including:

-Drink driving

-Unlicensed driving

-Drive whilst disqualified

-Drive whilst licence suspended

-Unregistered vehicle

-Police impounded six vehicles and issued 16 defect notices
