Bayside Council will undertake a comprehensive audit of all its existing public open spaces and recreational facilities following a decision at the Council Meeting on Wednesday 24 September.
This audit will help Bayside Council better plan for the future and proactively allocate developer contributions and voluntary planning agreements that would go towards improving community access to open space.
This will help ensure equitable access to quality open spaces and recreation areas, while taking into account the needs of those living in high-density growth areas.
The audit will include demographic, spatial and environmental context, as well as information that will help highlighting the way open space and recreation opportunities are being used across Bayside.
Council will use this audit as the basis for the development of an Open Spaces and Recreational Plan that will help ensure all parks and recreational spaces continue to meet the needs of Bayside's growing and diverse population into the future.
While it may not always be possible to increase the amount of open space available within the Bayside LGA an Open Spaces Recreational Plan will provide a strategic framework to improve liveability around high-density growth areas and help us invest in them.
The Plan will help ensure equitable access to facilities, improve connectivity between parks, recreation hubs and transport corridors, and highlight opportunities to expand Bayside's tree canopy and improve climate resilience.
