Universities Australia supports the Albanese Government's efforts to meet Australia's growing demand for university by making an extra 9,500 places available in 2026.
"This is great news for people wanting to go to university," Chief Executive Officer Luke Sheehy said.
"Every Australian who wants a degree should to able to get one, and these new places will help.
"We know that more skills are needed in more jobs and those skills are taught at our universities.
"Producing a strong pipeline of skilled workers is critical to Australia's future, now more than ever.
"It's the key to lifting productivity, growing the economy and building a better Australia for all.
"Universities have a big role to play and they're up to it.
"What's important is that funding and policy settings match the government's ambition of having a fully skilled workforce in the decades ahead.
"We'll continue to work closely with government in these endeavours, advocating for the support our sector needs to meet Australia's growing skills needs."
