Council has opened its Caloola Reserve Pavilion, offering high quality shared facilities to local sporting clubs and the community.
The $3.5M facility was funded by Monash Council with a State Government contribution of $800,000 through the Sports and Recreation Victoria Community Sports Infrastructure Fund 2019-20 - Major Facilities category.
Mayor Brian Little, in officially opening the new pavilion with local Member for Oakleigh Steve Dimopoulos, said the pavilion was the first of its kind in Monash.
"The pavilion has been designed to accommodate the needs of all clubs as a shared facility between East Oakleigh Cricket Club, Oakleigh Cricket Club, Oakleigh Tennis Club and Monash Villareal Football Club," Cr Little said.
"It will also be more broadly used by the wider Oakleigh community. With the recent opening of the redeveloped and outstanding Oakleigh Recreation Centre, these works complete the transformation of this precinct into a fantastic multi-sporting hub for Monash."
The new pavilion includes:
- four change room facilities
- a kitchen and kitchenette
- a social space and first aid room
- and a multicourt set-up with hot shots tennis courts, basketball ring and hit-up wall.
The multi-sport pavilion completes the second and final stage of the project. Stage one of the project saw the construction of eight new tennis courts.
"This is one of a number of buildings that Council has delivered recently that reflect our commitment to provide sustainable, accessible and quality facilities," Cr Little said.
