Operation AEGIS Update

​Community safety is an absolute priority for the Australian Border Force and Department of Home Affairs.

The Australian Border Force stood up Operation AEGIS, jointly with the Australian Federal Police, following the High Court's decision in NZYQ v Minister for Immigration, Citizenship and Multicultural Affairs & Anor.

ABF officers across the country have prioritised the operationalisation of the measures introduced by the Migration Amendment (Bridging Visa Conditions) Act 2023. This work has included implementing the use of electronic monitoring devices.

ABF can confirm two detainees in NSW and SA released as a result of the High Court's NZYQ decision have recently been charged. One remains in police custody. As both matters are now subject to court proceedings, no further detail can be provided.
