Operation Clean Up recovery plan revealed

Kriedeman Road after being cleaned up

Residents in areas highly impacted by the Christmas and New Year severe weather events can now find out when kerbside pick-up will be in their street.

The Operation Clean Up webpages went live on Monday allowing residents in highly impacted storm areas to find when green waste and other storm debris will be removed from their kerbside.

"We want to assure people that no one will be forgotten. We have a plan and we are coming to help," Mayor Tom Tate said.

"The task ahead of us is mammoth with an unprecedented amount of green waste to be removed - it is estimated it will take 75,000 truck loads to remove the waste.

"The website gives storm impacted residents notice of when we will be in their neighbourhood to clean up.

"The Operation Clean Up website will also show the progress of the pick up and the areas our crews have already been through.

"The website also provides information for residents on how to prepare before our teams arrive in their neighbourhood.

"We are looking at removing a once in a generation sized storm clean up and no one will be left behind.

"Clean up work is underway and as a part of this, the City has removed load limits on green waste for domestic customers and waived commercial green waste fees for storm debris at the City's disposal facilities.

"In addition to the City's immediate and continuing response with tree clearing, we had crews conducting kerbside collection of storm debris over the weekend in the areas that suffered significant damage which will continue over the coming days."

City of Gold Coast Program Director – Operation Clean Up, Ainslie Buffett said residents who have storm debris and green waste on their property but are not on the list will be offered alternate options and support. That information will be placed on the website soon.

"When pick up time comes, crews will first pick up the green waste and then in the following days pick up other storm debris," Ms Buffett said.

"Residents in storm affected areas should regularly check the website.

"Before the estimated pick up date, they should ensure their green waste and other storm debris is placed on the kerb and separated."
