South Australia Police were busy on the state's roads over the long weekend, with thousands of drivers required to undergo road side testing.
Nearly 8000 motorists were required to undergo a breath test over the long weekend as part of a SA Police road safety campaign, with 65 drivers returning a positive result for alcohol.
During the state-wide Operation Safe Long Weekend campaign police also drug tested more than 570 motorists, with 52 returning a positive result.
Chief Inspector Amit Sareen, acting officer in charge of the SA Police Traffic Support Branch, said it was unacceptable to police that drivers would choose to consume alcohol or illicit drugs and then drive.
"Driving over the limit, or taking drugs and driving creates an unacceptable risk to every other road user.
"Drink and drug driving has long been recognised as a major contributing factor to road crashes.
"Police will continue to detect these drivers and take them off the roads whenever we can, before they kill an innocent person."
"Operation Stop Drink/Drug driving is one of our many special focus operations, but I remind all drivers that police can breath test and drug test any driver or motorcycle rider at any time of the day or night, anywhere in the state."
