Officers attached to Brisbane Water Police District, supported by specialist police resources, have conducted a high-visibility operation targeting antisocial behaviour and crime in the Terrigal area and surrounding suburbs.
Operation Suppress was conducted on Friday 28 August 2026 and Saturday 29 August 2026 in response to antisocial behaviour, knife, drug and property related offences.
Officers from Brisbane Water Police District, the Public Order and Riot Squad, Operational Support Group, PolAir and the Dog Unit assisted with the operation.
During the operation, police conducted 13 person searches including knife scanning, two vehicle searches, issued one move-on direction and carried out 39 inspections of licensed premises.
Incidents of note include:
- About 6pm on Saturday 29 August 2026, police stopped and searched a vehicle on Heath Road, Hardys Bay. During the search, police allegedly located and seized a range of tablets and drugs. A 20-year-old man was arrested and taken to Gosford Police Station where he was charged with two counts of possess prohibited drug, and supply prohibited drug (greater than small and less than or equal to indictable quantity). He was granted bail to appear before Gosford Local Court on Thursday 15 October 2026.
- About 8.45pm on Saturday 29 August 2026, police stopped a vehicle on Russell Street, East Gosford. Police spoke with driver, a 19-year-old man, and four passengers. During a search of the vehicle, officers allegedly located and seized two baseball bats, $2100 cash, and a crystal-like substance. The substance will undergo further examination. Inquiries are ongoing.
Detective Inspector Matthew Stingmore said police are committed to maintaining community safety across the Terrigal area and surrounding suburbs.
"Operation Suppress brought together local officers and specialist police resources to target antisocial behaviour and offences involving knives, drugs and property crime," Det Insp Stingmore said.
"Anyone carrying weapons, supplying drugs or engaging in criminal behaviour can expect to be detected and dealt with."
"We will continue to conduct operations of this nature across the Brisbane Water area, working closely with specialist commands to keep our communities safe."
Minister for Police and Counter-terrorism Yasmin Catley said if you're carrying weapons, dealing drugs or committing a crime, expect police to come looking.
"Operation Suppress sends a clear message: police are out in force and targeting the behaviour causing concern on the Central Coast.
"But police don't need a special operation to act. NSW Police can stop and search someone anywhere, at any time, if they have suspicion to search.
"These operations are not a one-off. They will continue regularly across the Brisbane Water area."
The operation will continue on a regular basis across the Brisbane Water area.
