Operation Surge Targets Domestic Violence Offenders

NSW Police has launched a new concentrated, intelligence-led and intensive operation to proactively target offenders wanted for domestic violence incidents across Sydney.

The Domestic and Family Violence Command established Operation DFVC Surge 2026 to deploy additional police resources to locate and arrest offenders wanted on outstanding warrants, carry out apprehended domestic violence orders and bail compliance checks and to prevent serious violent offending.

On Thursday 26 March 2026, officers from the Domestic and Family Violence Command led the coordinated operation across the Central Metropolitan Region.

Officers from every Police Area Command in the region took part, supported by specialist officers from the Domestic Violence High Risk Offenders Team, Raptor Squad, State Operations & Emergency Management Command and Traffic and Highway Patrol Command.

During the operation, 18 people were arrested and charged with 31 offences.

Police conducted more than 450 apprehended domestic violence order (ADVO) compliance checks, with nine breaches identified, and more than 220 bail compliance checks.

Officers conducted five firearms prohibition order (FPO) searches.

The Minister for Police and Counter-terrorism, Yasmin Catley said the results under Operation DFVC Surge 2026 were a strong reminder of just how prevalent domestic and family violence continued to be in our community.

"Operation DFVC Surge 2026 builds on the significant work already underway through Operation Amarok, which has seen thousands of offenders arrested and more than 100,000 ADVO compliance checks carried out to keep victims safe," Minister Catley said.

"The latest quarterly crime statistics show the highest number of domestic violence prosecutions on record. That is being driven by stronger, more proactive policing and better detection – not an increase in underlying offending.

"This is the result of outstanding police work. It shows officers are identifying, targeting and holding offenders to account earlier and more effectively than ever before.

"Police understand the urgency of this issue. Operations like DFVC Surge 2026 send a clear message that police are not slowing down and they will continue to do everything in their power to protect victim-survivors and prevent further harm."

Capability, Performance and Youth Command Assistant Commissioner Jason Weinstein said Operation DFVC Surge 2026 was the latest police initiative to tackle domestic violence.

"Operation DFVC Surge 2026 sends a clear message: if you choose to commit domestic violence, police will find you, we will hold you accountable, and we will protect and support victims," Assistant Commissioner Weinstein said.

"This operation is driven by intelligence and allows us to bring our capabilities together in an agile way to address, identify and target emerging risks.

"Operation Surge puts perpetrators on notice that we will deploy our resources together at any point to protect victims.

"Offenders will not know when or where police will turn up, knock on their door and arrest them for an outstanding warrant, breaching an apprehended domestic violence order or bail, or to investigate serious violent incidents."

Operation Surge will be conducted in South West Metropolitan Region in April and North West Metropolitan Region in June.
