Police from the South Brisbane District commenced four-month Operation Tango Raze overnight (May 27), targeting the fatal five, with approximately one in 70 drivers detected for drug or drink driving.
This high-visibility operation builds on the strong commitment to disrupt use of road networks and transport corridors by offenders to transport illicit property and drugs.
The operation saw officers from the South Brisbane District and Road Policing Units perform 791 RBT's resulting in four positive results for alcohol (with the highest reading 0.167%) and seven positive results for drugs.
Drugs were located during searches of intercepted vehicles, with the assistance of drug detection dogs, and five people were subsequently charged.
Three drivers were allegedly unlicensed, 45 traffic infringement notices were issued, and 14 drivers were issued defective vehicle repair notices.
The operations combine officers from road policing, general duties and specialist squads, providing a high visibility policing presence to detect and deter motorists from the fatal five causes of road trauma.
Tango Raze will continue at several locations across South Brisbane throughout the coming months, Senior Sergeant Michelle Piket said.
"Police are committed to making Queensland's roads safer, and we would like to take this opportunity to remind all motorists that if you commit offences on our roads, you can be caught anywhere-anytime," She said.
