Police have arrested 65 people and charged them with 90 offences, following a two-day operation in Sydney's south west metropolitan region under Operation Trident last week.
In October 2025, police have established Operation Trident to combat criminal behaviours and proactively bring alleged offenders before the court across the Sydney Metropolitan Region.
Following the first operation in Noth West Metropolitan Region, the second operation was held in the South-West Metropolitan Region between Thursday 4 December 2025 and Friday 5 December 2025.
About 550 police officers from the three Metropolitan Region Commands across the Sydney, PolAir, Dog Squad, Traffic and Highway Patrol Command, Police Transport Command and State Crime Command were deployed.
More than 70 of them, with the assistance from Raptor Squad and South West Metropolitan Region Operations Support Group (OSG), were specially tasked to disrupted serious and violence offenders and part of Organised Crime Networks (OCN):
- A joint operation with Corrective Services NSW targeting imprisoned members of Organised Crime Network (OCN) and associates resulted in seizures of illicit drugs and contraband following searches into 46 cells.
- 29 Firearms Prohibition Order (FPO) compliance checks were conducted and 480 people were scanned in Auburn, Burwood, Merrylands, Liverpool and Campbelltown areas, before police seized two firearms, eight knives and an illegal stunning device.
During the operation, there were 65 arrests, including 20 offenders wanted on warrants and four high risk domestic violence offenders, with more than 90 charges laid.
On the road, police issued 476 infringement notices following 432 Roadside Breath Tests, and 53 Roadside Drug Tests.
South Metropolitan Region Commander, Assistant Commissioner Brett McFadden, said a strategic and intelligence-led approach to disrupting these offenders was the focus and proved successful during Operation Trident.
"Due to the recent shootings in the South West Metropolitan region, police part of Operation Trident focused their efforts on cracking down on members of OCN and conducting FPO compliance checks throughout the intensive two-day operation." Assistant Commissioner McFadden said.
"This was the second major operation under Operation Trident after it was established in October and we are seeing palpable results from it."
"Any criminal activities that may cause concerns to public safety will not be tolerated at any time, as all members of community are entitled to be protected and feel safe across the Sydney's metropolitan region."
Incidents of note:
- In November 2025, officers attached to Fairfield City Police Area Command and Campbelltown City Police Area Command established Strike Force Stagaar and Strike Force Lamm, following several public place shooting incidents in Fairfield, Bossley Park and Wetherill Park areas, along with an alleged arson in Leumeah area in October 2025, which police allege are all linked.
Four people have since been charged and they remain before the court.
Following further inquiries, about 8.30am on Thursday 4 December 2025, strike force detectives, with the assistance from Operation Trident officers, executed a search warrant at a home in Merrylands, where they arrested a 28-year-old man and seized electronic devices. About 10.30am on the same day, police have further arrested a 19-year-old man at a corrective facility in Silverwater.
The older man was taken to Fairfield Police Station where he was charged with affray. He was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court on Thursday 4 December 2025, where he was refused bail to appear at the same court on Thursday 11 December 2025.
The younger man was charged with destroy etc property in company use fire etc more than $5000 (two counts), and participate criminal group contribute criminal activity. He was refused bail to appear at Campbelltown Local Court on Friday 5 December 2025, where he was refused bail to appear at the same court on Thursday 11 December 2025.
- About 7pm on Thursday 4 December 2025, Operation Trident Police arrested a 48-year-old man wanted on an outstanding warrant at home in Chester Hill. Police allege he attempted to bring illegal substance into a correctional facility in Matraville, in June this year.
He was taken to Bankstown Police Station where he was charged with an outstanding warrant on bring etc listed/scheduled poison into place of detention. He was refused bail to appear at Bankstown Local Court on Friday 5 December 2025.
- About 12.30pm on Tuesday 4 March 2025, officers attached to Bankstown Police Area Command were patrolling on Batt Street, Sefton, when they located a white SUV being driven in a dangerous manner.
When the vehicle failed to stop as directed, a pursuit was initiated.
A short time later, the vehicle stopped and after it has crashed into a traffic island, a fence and a parked vehicle and the driver left the scene on foot. Police established a crime scene and seized the vehicle for a forensic examination.
Following extensive inquiries, about 9pm on Thursday 4 December 2025, Police arrested a 29-year-old man at a home in Sefton. He was taken to Bankstown Police Station where he was charged with an outstanding warrant on police pursuit – not stop – drive recklessly, drive motor vehicle during disqualification period, not vie particulars to owner of damaged property, and not give particulars to other driver.
He was refused bail to appear at Bankstown Local Court on Friday 5 December 2025, where he was refused bail to appear at the same court on Thursday 11 December 2025.
- About 8.25pm on Friday 5 December 2025, officers part of Operation Trident and attached to Traffic and Highway Patrol Command stopped a silver hatchback at the intersection of Bigge Street and Railway Street, Liverpool, for a random breath testing. Checks revealed that the driver was wanted on an outstanding warrant in relation to domestic violence offences in Rouse Hill area.
The 43-year-old man was taken to Liverpool Police Station where he was charged with an outstanding warrant on contravene prohibition/restriction in AVO, and common assault.
He was refused bail to appear at Bail Division Court 6 on Saturday 6 December 2025, where he was refused bail to appear at the same court on Sunday 7 December 2025.
- About 10.50pm on Friday 5 December 2025, police received a Triple Zero call of two males armed with an alleged taser on a train at Cabramatta Railway Station. A short time later, officers attached to Liverpool City Police Area Command arrested two teenage boys – aged 16 and 15 – at Liverpool Railway Station after they seized a taser, a small knife and a glass breaker.
They were both taken to Liverpool Police Station where the older boy was charged with possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit (three counts), possess housebreaking implements, and custody of knife in public place.

They were both refused bail to appear at Children's Court on Saturday 6 December 2025, where they were granted conditional bail to appear before the court on Monday 15 December 2025.
