NSW Police has established a new high-visibility surge operation to proactively target offenders and prevent criminal behaviour, with 95 arrested and in excess of 200 charges laid during the first crackdown.

For the first time last week, Operation Trident mobilised and deployed officers from north-west, central and south-west metropolitan regions for a two-day operation targeting criminal behaviour, offenders and crime trends.

The first operation was held in the North-West Metropolitan Region between Friday 24 October 2025 and Saturday 25 October 2025.

About 250 officers from specialist region operation teams were tasked during Operation Trident, in addition to a regular frontline police response.

Police targeted high risk domestic violence offenders, the illegal sale and supply of vape and tobacco products, illegal firearms and weapons, drug supply, warrant offenders and breaches of the child protection register while also conducting bail and domestic violence compliance checks and licensing checks.

As part of the operation, there were 95 arrests, including 13 offenders wanted on warrants and 7 high risk domestic violence offenders, with more than 200 charges laid and 11 knives and weapons seized.

High-risk domestic violence offenders were also targeted by specialised teams.

Firearms and weapons compliance checks were carried with 10 premises searches locating weapons including zombie knives, with 2126 knife scan operations across Mount Druitt, Penrith, Parramatta, Hornsby, Manly and Blacktown, including transport hubs.

Officers, assisted by PolAir and the Dog Unit, targeted Strike Force Sweetenham offenders to prevent break ins and disrupt the supply of stolen motor vehicles for organised crime.

Police also targeted drug operations, seizing cannabis, methylamphetamine, heroin and steroids, conducted child protection register home visits and compliance inspections, resulting in 35 fresh charges.

Across the operation, police issued 156 Traffic Infringement Notices, conducted 1672 Roadside Breath Tests and 37 Roadside Drug Tests.

A joint operation with NSW Health into the illegal sale and supply of vape and tobacco products saw 1871 vapes, 145,878 illicit cigarettes and 11.6kg of loose-leaf tobacco seized.

Officers from region enforcement squads, operations support groups, region high-visibility patrol teams, region domestic violence high risk offender teams, region intelligence teams were involved, with support from the Public Transport Command, Dog Unit, Aviation Command and Traffic and Highway Patrol Command.

North West Metropolitan Region Commander, Assistant Commissioner Gavin Wood, said specialised officers used intelligence-led information to prevent and detect criminal offending.

"This new operation will see our region operations teams surge into north-west, central and south-west regions regularly to disrupt a range of criminal behaviour," Assistant Commissioner Wood said.

"Each time Operation Trident is deployed, the region will target the offenders and criminal behaviour specific to those areas.

"We have already seen great results with 95 arrests and weapons taken off the streets as part of the first crackdown.

"I would like to acknowledge the support provided to police from community and business throughout the duration of the operation".

"This operation shows how we can proactively use each region's officers and resources to enhance our police response in a targeted way."
