Operation Xray Furlow, Drug And Weapons Charges

The Rural Crime and Stock Crime Squad with support from the State Flying Squad and specialist units, have executed 25 search warrants and charged 20 people with 69 charges in the greater Longreach area as part of Operation Xray Furlow.

The operation was launched in September 2024 to target drug offending across the Central West Patrol Group.

Detectives from the Rural and Stock Crime Squad, Longreach Criminal Investigation Branch, State Flying Squad, Capricornia Tactical Crime Squad, Central Region Dog Squad and other District resources executed 25 search warrants from 13 August to 15 August.

The charges include trafficking dangerous drugs, supplying and possessing dangerous drugs, weapons, property and domestic violence-related offences.

Investigations are ongoing.

A 35-year-old Longreach man was charged with six counts of supplying dangerous drugs and two counts of possessing dangerous drugs after police executed a search warrant at a property in Longreach.

Officers allegedly located and seized methylamphetamine, cannabis, large amounts of cash, glass pipes and a mobile phone.

He is expected to appear in Longreach Magistrates Court on 16 September.

A 33-year-old Aramac man was charged with five counts of possessing medicines or poisons and one count each of possessing things used and possessing property after police executed a search warrant at a residence in Aramac.

Officers allegedly located and seized several utensils and prescription medications.

He is expected to appear in Longreach Magistrates Court on 16 September.

Detective Senior Sergeant Paul Elliot from the Rural and Stock Crime Squad said the impact that drug offending has on regional, rural and remote communities can be devastating.

"Drug-related criminal activity affects not only the individuals involved, but their families, friends and entire communities," Detective Senior Sergeant Elliot said.

"I commend our Central West communities for reporting these unacceptable crimes and encourage the public to continue supporting police to keep the community safe."
