Opportunity For Young People To Be Part Of Something Meaningful

Community members aged 12-25 have the chance to influence the activities and events that are held at The Nest Youth Hub in central Geelong.

Applications are open to join the Youth Hub Reference Group, which is vital to ensuring that the hub is safe, welcoming and accessible to young people.

Members meet monthly to have their say about how The Nest operates, what programs should run and identify solutions to barriers for young people's participation.

Being part of the reference group provides members with the opportunity to:

  • connect with other like-minded young people
  • build leadership, teamwork and advocacy skills
  • have your voice and lived experience heard
  • boost your resume and network with local services
  • make an impact and be part of something meaningful.

Deputy Mayor Ron Nelson

The Nest is a fun and inclusive space.

Young people can hang out, grab a bite to eat, make friends, join programs and connect with support services at The Nest.

We need to hear directly from young people about how we can continue to make the space welcoming and accessible, where we can improve and ensure the programming is responsive to the needs of 12- to 25-year-olds.

Members of the Youth Hub Reference Group will not only meet other young people and youth organisation representatives but receive coaching and mentoring from the City's Youth Development team to build up their leadership skills.

This is an unmissable opportunity to make a real difference for your peers.

2025 Youth Hub Reference Group member Imogen O'Shannessy

My experience on the reference group has been a positive one.

It has been a place for me to connect with adult stakeholders in the youth sector and gain insights into the way The Nest operates and functions for young people.

Young people considering applying to the Youth Hub Reference Group will need to be available January to December 2026.

Expressions of interest can be made before Sunday 9 November.
