Ormond Road to be upgraded

A vital link from the eastern suburbs into central Geelong will be upgraded through a major road reconstruction.

Works will begin next week on a heavily-used 400-metre-long section of Ormond Road in East Geelong.

The $1 million project will deliver a full road reconstruction of the inbound section of the road, between McKillop and Garden streets.

Crews will undertake underground drainage works and re-engineer low lying areas to eliminate water pooling along the busy stretch of road.

The upgrade is being funded by the Australian Government through the Roads to Recovery program.

Site establishment and drainage works will begin on Monday 10 February and are expected to take two weeks.

Full road reconstruction will follow, closing the inbound stretch of road to traffic for an estimated eight weeks.

Residents and businesses who will be directly impacted by the works have been notified of the construction dates and times.

Motorists travelling outbound towards eastern Geelong and the Bellarine Peninsula will not be affected.

The project complements a road reconstruction that occurred on the outbound side of Ormond Road in 2018.
