We welcome the Capability Review that was tabled in Australian Parliament on 2 June 2026.
The independent Review looked at how we are working, what we do well, and how we can improve for the future.
The Review recognises the deep expertise of our staff and a supportive culture. It shows us a pathway to improve. This includes how we work across teams and with stakeholders, while setting clear priorities.
Secretary Kaiser said the Review is part of efforts to improve foundations.
"This Review helps us deliver for Government and the Australian community with confidence," the Secretary said.
The findings come as we respond to challenges across climate change, energy, the environment, and water.
"These challenges are too important for us to settle for good enough," the Secretary said. "The Review shows how we can build a stronger and more capable department for the future."
We will now develop an action plan in response to the Review's recommendations. This work will focus on practical improvements.
