Will Hodgman,Premier & Minister for the Prevention of Family Violence
The Tasmanian Government has taken another important step in the campaign to eliminate family violence, forming a new partnership with Our Watch - the first of its kind in the country.
Today, the Premier & Minister for the Prevention of Family Violence and Our Watch Chair, Natasha Stott Despoja AO, signed a partnership agreement, which includes delivering a Primary Prevention Officer in Tasmania.
"The effort to eliminate family violence in our community remains a top priority of my Government," Premier Hodgman said.
"This partnership is part our new Action Plan, backed by $26 million in additional funding, which includes 40 actions to prevent and respond to family and sexual violence.
"The new Primary Prevention Officer will work across government and non-government services, and with community organisations, in the mission to end violence and to make Tasmania a safer place," Premier Hodgman said.
Our Watch is the national primary prevention organisation, established to drive nationwide change in the culture, behaviours and power imbalances that lead to violence against women children.
"Violence against women is a national emergency," Our Watch Chair Natasha Stott Despoja AO said.
"We can all play a role in preventing violence against women and children, but it requires a collaborative and integrated approach, which includes Governments at all levels.
"We commend the Tasmanian Government on its efforts to prevent and to reduce the impact of domestic and family violence. We look forward to working and learning together through this national first partnership model."
