Overnight shooting incident in West Meadows

A man has sustained a gunshot wound to his upper body after he allegedly drove at officers and rammed two police vehicles in a carpark off Mickleham Road in West Meadows.

The man and his female passenger came to the attention of police after they were seen acting suspiciously in the car park just after midnight.

As the police officers got out of their car to approach the pair, the driver allegedly accelerated and drove directly at the officers, ramming two police vehicles and causing one of the officers to discharge his firearm.

The driver sustained a gunshot wound to his shoulder and has since been conveyed to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

His female passenger was arrested and is expected to be interviewed later this morning.

The investigation is ongoing and will have oversight by Professional Standards Command, as per protocol when any police firearm is discharged.
