Paige Walker elected President of Property Council WA

The Property Council of Australia is delighted to announce that Paige Walker, Mirvac's General Manager, Residential Development WA, has been elected as the new WA President of the Property Council.

Since 2016, Ms Walker has led Mirvac's residential business in WA as Residential Development Director and General Manager Residential. Paige is responsible for Mirvac's $700m development pipeline of apartments and master-planned communities in WA from acquisition through to delivery.

With several successful and high-profile projects, Paige has delivered defining developments such as Claremont by Mirvac, Latitude Leighton Beach and the Peninsula Burswood.

She most recently served four years as Property Council's WA Vice President and has been a member of numerous advisory committees and working groups within industry and Government.

Ms Walker takes on the role during an exciting period of growth in WA. She will work with the team on advancing the advocacy agenda outlined in the WA election platform, Recovery and Growth: Powered by Property.

"WA stood strong in 2020 against the challenges of COVID-19, and as the economy continues to open up, it is important that WA is well-positioned to attract and retain the investment, talent and market share it has earnt over the past year," Ms Walker said.

The property industry is vital to ensuring that economic diversity and stability categorise the next term of economic activity. Property already contributes $24.4 billion to Gross State Product, and more than one in five people derive their wage from the property industry.

"Western Australia's economic success requires a long-term focus on the right policy settings to enhance business and consumer confidence and support sustainable growth over the long term. The property industry will play a central role in WA's economic renaissance and ongoing prosperity."

"On March 13, WA goes to the polls. Whatever the outcome, the Property Council stands ready to work with Government to continue to guide the state towards growth and prosperity."

"The last year has taught us all to expect the unexpected, and I am excited to work with my Division Council to guide the industry across the next two years. There is a lot of optimism in the market, and the Property Council team will continue to work to harness the opportunities ahead for all members," Ms Walker said.

Ms Walker replaces AMP Capital, Divisional Investment & Development Manager, Scott Nugent, who has successfully led the Property Council through an unprecedented two-year period.

"Scott Nugent's term as President during the COVID-19 crisis in 2020 meant he faced enormous challenges in developing the industry's response to government initiatives including the Commercial Tenancies Code of Conduct, land tax relief, residential stimulus and major Planning reforms including the creation of the State Development Assessment Unit."

"The achievements during his term are immense and he should be very proud of his legacy. I would like to thank Scott for his commitment and resolute advocacy for our WA Members." said Sandra Brewer, WA Executive Director of the Property Council.

The Division Council comprises 17 of WA's property industry's leaders and incorporates members with a range of expertise across the full spectrum of property sectors.
