Pair in custody after northern beaches police operation

Two males have been arrested following a police operation in Sydney's Northern Beaches today.

About 12pm (Monday 6 May 2019), officers attached to Northern Beaches Police Area Command were called to Dalley Street, Freshwater, after reports of two men acting suspiciously in the residential area.

On arrival, police observed a Toyota Rav 4 believed to be stolen, which drove away.

A pursuit was initiated when the vehicle failed to stop for police, however was terminated when it was unable to be located in Manly Vale.

A short time later, the vehicle was located on Addiscombe Road, and both men fled on foot in different directions, which begun a search coordinated by Northern Beaches police, with assistance from PolAir and the Dog Unit.

A 25-year-old man was arrested after swimming across Manly Lagoon and being located under a house on Riverview Parade, Manly Vale.

A 17-year-old boy was arrested after being located in an industrial unit on Campbell Parade.

Both were taken to Manly Police Station.

Schools in surrounding areas were placed into lockdown as a precaution during the operation, however the men are not believed to have entered any of the schools.

Inquiries are continuing.
