Parenting program returns next month

Parents are invited to join a free program, based on new research, that promotes family growth and wellbeing.

The City initiated a partnership with the Institute of Positive Education - a training and research centre based at Geelong Grammar - to deliver the four-week Flourishing Families course.

The next program is set to start in April.

Participants will learn practical positive psychology skills to:

  • promote resilience;
  • increase awareness of character strengths;
  • nurture and sustain positive relationships;
  • give effective feedback and support individual growth; and
  • explore their family values and shared goals.

A trained facilitator from the City's Regional Parenting Service will lead the evening sessions, which include presentations and group discussions.

The program launched late last year and received praise from participants.

Encouragingly, many reported a positive shift in their relationships within the family unit.

The program comprises weekly evening sessions that run for about two hours each.

Numbers are capped at 15 participants.
