Parents Need Support To Strengthen Safety Of Children In Early Learning

As reforms to early childhood education continue across the ACT, parents are calling for more support to help keep children safe in care settings.

Research by Body Safety Australia shows that 77% of parents and carers want support to provide abuse prevention strategies for their children.

In response, ACT Parents, in partnership with the ACT Education Directorate, is hosting a free online forum: Safeguarding Children in Early Education & Care - to give families the information and practical strategies they've been asking for.

The forum will feature:

• Deanne Carson, CEO of Body Safety Australia

• Kara Bromley, Director of MOCCA - Manuka Childcare Centre

• Yvette Berry, ACT Minister for Education and Early Childhood

• Representatives from Children's Education and Care Assurance (CECA), the ACT regulator

Together, they'll explore how families, educators, regulators, and government can work together to strengthen child safety, trust, and communication in early education settings.

"Safeguarding children is everyone's responsibility," said Veronica Elliott, Executive Officer of ACT Parents. "This forum is about empowering parents and carers with quality information and practical strategies - so they feel confident reinforcing body safety messages and supporting their children's wellbeing."

The session will share information and ideas to help parents and carers:

• Recognise signs or situations that may not feel right

• Respond appropriately when concerns arise

• Teach and reinforce body safety and confidence at home and in care settings
