The Parkes Sports Council is calling on local sporting clubs to help ensure the contributions of our sporting volunteers and administrators are properly recognised.
The Council is seeking information on any individuals who have been awarded Life Membership by a Parkes sporting club or organisation in recent years so they can be considered for inclusion on the Parkes Sporting Groups Life Members Honour Roll.
Parkes Sports Council representative, Cr Louise O'Leary, said life membership is one of the highest honours a sporting organisation can bestow and recognises years of dedication and service to local sport.
"Across Parkes, there are many volunteers who have devoted countless hours to supporting local sport, often behind the scenes. The Honour Roll is an important way of acknowledging their contribution to our community.
We know there are deserving Life Members across our sporting clubs whose names may not yet be included on the Honour Roll, and we are encouraging clubs to help us ensure their contributions are recognised and preserved for future generations.
I would also like to thank the Parkes Services Club for its ongoing support in continuing to host the Honour Roll, providing a prominent place for our community to celebrate the people who have made such a lasting contribution to local sport."
Clubs are invited to submit the following information:
- Name of the Life Member
- Sporting organisation
The Honour Roll is displayed at the Parkes Services Club and serves as a lasting tribute to those who have made a significant contribution to local sport.
Originally established by the former Parkes Sports Council, the program has continued under Parkes Shire Council and remains an important initiative supporting local sport. Council is now exploring opportunities to expand the program to benefit sporting organisations and athletes across the entire Parkes Shire.
