The final piece of the Parkhurst Industrial Area (PIA) Project is underway, as Rockhampton Regional Council upgrades the Johnson and Alexandra Street intersection.

The works mark the last major milestone in a multi-stage project aimed at strengthening three critical corridors in Parkhurst – McLaughlin Street, Wade Street and Johnson Street.

Construction at the Johnson and Alexandra Street intersection has begun as works along Wade Street were completed earlier this month.

The $10 million project is being delivered through a partnership between Rockhampton Regional Council, the Australian Government and the Queensland Government.

Rockhampton Regional Council Mayor Tony Williams said the upgrades are essential for supporting ongoing industrial and commercial growth in the Parkhurst area.

"This project is more than just roadworks – it's an investment in the future of our region," Mayor Williams said.

"Parkhurst is a key hub and by improving safety, access and infrastructure through this collaborative project, we're supporting local businesses and enabling future development.

"It's great to see the final phase commence, and it's a great example of Council working with other levels of government to invest in and support growth in our region."

Infrastructure Councillor Marika Taylor said with crews working in the area for the last few months, she is looking forward to the completion of the third and final stage.

"Wade Street has undergone significant improvements, including stormwater drainage, road widening, new kerb and channel, and fresh asphalt resurfacing," Cr Taylor said.

"With Wade Street works completed, we're shifting focus to the widening of the Johnson and Alexandra Street intersection.

"These works aim to improve safety and functionality for heavy vehicles that operate in this high-traffic industrial area.

"The upgrades will also enhance road width, drainage, lighting and pavement strength, addressing long-standing concerns around congestion and road wear in the precinct."
